Have you reached a dead end? Has the fire in the belly been doused out? Just a few days back you were all gung-ho about the project, about cleaning your garage, about taking that course and it all seems to have fizzled out now. Motivation quite simply is the sum total of our feelings when we have something to aim for.
The internet is replete with new age motivating morsels by way of tips, techniques, quotes and wallpapers. But they can only help so much. Motivation is not only direction of your enthusiasm towards a goal but also persisting with that direction till you reach the finish line. And to breast that tape we have to strive.
And the first key is to realize that lack of motivation is just a temporary phase. Motivation is their always, we just have to shovel away the debris once in a while. So, pick your preferred tool and start to sweat it out again.
Remember…
What was the moment in time when you felt that you lost it? Was it the rejection of your proposal or did you have anything to do with rebuke? Or did it come after a brief episode of success? Sometimes a small factor could be the cause for loss of motivation. It is not failure alone; success too can be a catalyst. With success comes the thought that,’ I have won the battle.’ But hey, what about the war? A lot of us don’t know how to go beyond our successes. It’s like a paralysis after reaching a desired goal. The numbing thought - What do I do now, holds many of us back from striving for more.
It’s important to understand our individual trigger points for the lack of motivation. Only then can we apply the cure.
The art of living…
Are we chasing a lifestyle instead of a life? Sometimes we get so caught up with the daily grind of work life that we forget their’s something beyond the cubicle. We slack in other areas especially relationships. Let’s take a timeout. Letting the job take over our day usually causes emotional and physical heartburn. Not only to us, but also to those who want to share a part of our lives. . Let’s eat well, let’s sleep better and let’s spend some quality time with our families. And let’s leave work back at work.
The power of lists…
Writing down our tasks and prioritizing them sometimes helps to clear the clutter in our brains. What’s really important for me and those around me? Of course, I have to earn money for the creature comforts. But I do need to take that course too. And hey, the football game is coming up this weekend. Lists are a fantastic tool to create goals and keep them in perspective. So, let’s prioritize. And for a change maybe, start with all the home tasks and then move into work related areas. After all, the basics of our lives starts from the loving corner we call a family.
A step at a time…
Little by little one can walk far. We aren’t going to launch a rocket…just our motivational urges. The power of achievement comes from doing the small things well. And small victories can rejuvenate us towards the bigger goals. Wake up for the morning jog you had been postponing. Could liven you up to take on the rest of the day. Feeling better? Why not just run down the items in the list again; there are some more things to achieve.
‘Not now’ can become ‘never’ quite swiftly. And life is too precious to live with regrets of things left undone. So, let’s burn the couch and cast way the slumber.
